 Avoiding the pitfalls
Avoiding the pitfalls(excerpts from the article) By Mark Allen 6-time Hawaii Ironman Champion p.84 Triathlete magazine N* 265/MAY 2006
This applies to all three sports. We can become efficient at whatever motions we do over and over. Every time we train we should allocate part of the brain to pay attention to the way our bodies are moving.
If you are a triathlete you are probably an over-strider. This equates to stepping on the brakes just slightly with every footfall, and you don't get to accelerate again until your center of gravity shifts past the midpoint of the foot. The top runners are usually mid foot strikers. Making this simple mechanical shift can make an Ironman marathon a run rather than a survival test.
